DENALI STATE PARK INFORMATION

Denali State Park is located along a stretch of the Parks Highway between miles 132-170 (from Anchorage). The state park offers 325,000 acres of incredibly beautiful wilderness. From many areas of the park you can get some of the most spectacular views of Mt. McKinley on land. Other peaks that are visible include Mt. Hunter, Mt. Huntington, & Mt. Dickey as are several glaciers, and the Chulitna River.

Denali State Park has over 48 miles of established trails and several campgrounds, all of which are accessible from the main road.

Lower Troublesome Creek State Recreation Site (mile 137), has 10 sites, toilets, & water. Access to Lower Troublesome Creek Trailhead north to Byers Lake.

Byers Lake State Campground (mile 147), has 66 sites, fire pits, toilets, water and offers easy access to Byers Lake where there is excellent fishing. There is a hiking trail to Curry Ridge and south to Troublesome Creek.

Denali View North Campground (mile 163), 20 sites, toilets & water.

Little Coal Creek Trailhead (mile 163). This is a 27 mile trail (43km) to Byers Lake (mile 147) via the Kesugi Ridge. The trail offers relatively easy access, incredible views and offers an excellent alternative to Denali National Park. (The picture at the top of this page was taken on Kesugi Ridge).
