ARRIVING BY

Fairbanks by one of 2 highways: Richardson or Parks.
ARRIVING BY SHUTTLE BUS
- from Anchorage, Tok, Haines, Dawson City, Skagway, Valdez or Denali National
Park?
Most Shuttle companies arriving from Anchorage, Denali & from Whitehorse will bring you to
our door. Simply ask your driver to let you off here. Visit the
Fairbanks Visitor Center website
for current companies offering shuttle service.
ARRIVING BY AIR into Fairbanks International Airport?
Taxi - The hostel is located about 15 minutes
(driving) from the Fairbanks International
Airport. Step outside the terminal and you will see taxi's at your
service. The one-way fare should be about $18.
Fairbanks City BUS - You can get to the hostel by taking the
YELLOW Line to the University
of Alaska, then transferring to the
RED Line - to
Westwood Way. We are the first house on Westwood Way. Click the link
for current bus line schedules & Fares.
Walking - usually takes about 45 minutes.
If you chose to walk, 1) Head out of the airport down OLD Airport Way (you do
not need to go to the main highway) towards the city. Old Airport Way (and the
new highway) will both take you to a major intersection College and University
2) At this Intersection, Make a left on University Avenue. Walk 2 lights
down and 3) Make a right on College Road. 4) Walk past until you get to Westwood
Way - 2 streets past the Chevron Station. We are the first house on
the LEFT on Westwood Way.
ARRIVING BY Alaska Railroad?
Fairbanks has a new Rail Depot, located in an industrial area, but
much closer to the hostel. The best way to get to/from the Rail Station to the
hostel is by foot, city bus or taxi.
BY BUS: When you arrive at the depot, ask at the information booth for
the current bus schedule.
BY TAXI: Step outside the rail depot and you will see several taxi's at
your service. Total fare $14-$16
BY FOOT: From the Rail Depot, walk north along Danby towards College Road.
Make a left on College Road. Walk to "WESTWOOD WAY". Make a left.
We are the first house on the left. Total time should be less than 30
minutes.
ARRIVING BY Alaska State Ferry?
Yes, Fairbanks is several hundred miles from the ocean, BUT if you
arrive into Alaska on the Alaska Marine Highway System into Anchorage, Skagway,
Haines, Valdez, or Seward there may be direct shuttles to Fairbanks. This
seems to change from year to year. Check with the
Fairbanks Visitor Center for the
most current information.

The hostel is located about 2.5 miles
from the central downtown area. This trip usually requires a bike, bus or
taxi. Or you may catch a ride with Billie if she or any of the
family are making a trip into town.

GETTING AROUND ONCE YOU ARE IN FAIRBANKS
By City Bus (MACS):
The Fairbanks Borough operates 5 area
wide bus lines - Red; Blue; Green; Purple; Yellow. These routes will allow
you to get to most places in the Fairbanks area - including North Pole, the
University and most outlying areas. Visit the MACS website for current route
information, maps, schedules and fares. The hostel also has maps and
pocket size bus route information for you to use.
If you have trouble understanding the schedule or what bus
you need, ask ANY bus driver.
Remember: The hostel is located 1 block from the
RED Line at the
corner of Westwood Way and College Road. Simply ask the driver to let you
off at Westwood Way.
By Taxi :
There are plenty of taxi companies in Fairbanks. Use the phone
book, or ask Billie to call one for you. Rates will vary depending on
where you wish to go. By Bicycle or by Foot:
Many places are within an easy walk of the hostel, including the
University of Alaska - Fairbanks (UAF), the state fairgrounds,
Creamers
Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, many shops, pubs and restaurants.
You may also ask Billie if there is a spare bike you may use for the day.
There are also bicycles for rent at Beaver Sports (about a 10 minute walk from
the hostel). ASK Billie
Billie or a member of the family frequently are making
trips into the city center or outlying areas. Ask for a ride!
